As a goalkeeper in soccer, he was named to All-America second team in 1939, when Cornell finished second in the Middle Atlantic League (3-3-2). He served as captain of the 1939 team. He allowed only five goals in eight games during the 1939 season. He won two letters in soccer and lettered as a forward with junior varsity basketball team in 1939; and with varsity team in 1940. He later became a successful masters marathon runner and was nationally ranked in the 20K in 1987.
