A three-year letterman in both football and wrestling, he was an outstanding tackle on the gridiron from 1947-49. During his senior year, Clark was named to the Associated Press All-Ivy and All-East first teams, and received AP All-America honorable mention honors twice. An excellent heavyweight wrestler, he placed third in the Eastern Intercollegiate tournament in 1948 and was fourth in 1949.
