One of Cornell's all-time great football players and a coach, Starbuck was a fullback and captain in both 1899 and 1900. Caspar Whitney picked him on his first All-America team in 1900. Sports writer Grantland Rice tabbed him as the "best-named man in football." He was head coach of the Big Red in 1901 and 1902, compiling a two-year record of 19-4, with the '01 team going 11-1. This was the most wins ever by a Cornell football team.
