Phair started her collegiate fencing career with a bang, earning consecutive first-team All-American honors in her first two seasons with the Big Red. As a freshman, she  became the first Big Red fencer to earn All-American status in 19 years after recording a sixth-place finish at the 2003 NCAA Fencing Championships. She ended the competition with a 15-7 record, and had a +9 touch differential. Phair was also named first-team All-Ivy and took second place in the Northeast Regional that same season. The following year, Phair captured fourth place at the 2004 NCAA Championship, finishing the competition with a 15-8 record and a stellar +22 touch differential. She qualified for the NCAAs by taking gold at the NCAA Northeast Regional. She also went 9-5 in Ivy League competition to earn second-team All-Ivy honors. Â
