Thompson was major factor in turning in two of the finest season’s throughout the early history of the men’s soccer program. Seeing time as a wing back, before moving into a holding midfielder role, he earned First Team All-America recognition after the Big Red posted a then-program best 7-1 record in 1921. He transitioned to a full-time midfield role the following season, leading the squad to a 5-1-1 record. He joined teammate Francis Righter as the first two-time First Team All-American in men’s soccer program history.
