Gompf was named third-team All-American and first-team All-Ivy in 1968 after leading the Big Red to an undefeated 12-0 record overall and a mark of 6-0 in Ivy League play. He served as team captain that same season and won the Dr. Ray Van Orman Memorial Award as the team’s most valuable player.
