Johnson earned honorable mention All-America honors in both 1985 and 1986 at offensive guard. He was elected team captain in 1986 in his third and final season as a starter. Johnson earned first-team All-Ivy honors in each of his final two seasons and took home the Cornell Football Coaches Award as team MVP in 1986 after the Big Red's second-place Ivy finish.
