Concluding his Cornell career as one of the best goaltenders to stand in the crease for the Big Red men’s hockey team, Shane backstopped the Big Red to consecutive Whitelaw Cup titles in 2023-24 and 2024-25. Named ECAC Hockey’s Ken Dryden Goaltender of the Year in 2023-24, he also received First Team All-Ivy and Second Team All-American honors that same year and was an All-Ivy Honorable Mention as a freshman in 2021-22 after not appearing in any of Cornell’s first 11 games. Closing out his Big Red career with 66 victories, only behind Ken Dryden for the program lead in the category, Shane posted 14 career shutouts, one of four goaltenders to reach that figure, and collected 2,556 saves, one of six Cornell goaltenders to surpass the 2,000-save threshold. Finishing his Cornell career with a 1.85 goals-against average, Shane’s figure ranks fifth in Cornell program history and was the 14th-best clip by a Division I goaltender in NCAA history through the completion of the 2024-25 season. Backstopping Cornell to its second consecutive Whitelaw Cup title in 2024-25, Shane was named ECAC Hockey’s Most Outstanding Player of championship weekend in Lake Placid, N.Y., combining to save 52 of 55 shots (.945 save percentage) against Quinnipiac and Clarkson, becoming Cornell’s seventh goaltender to earn ECAC Hockey Most Outstanding Player honors and the first since Ben Scrivens in 2010. Shane received ECAC Hockey Goaltender of the Week honors 15 times in his Big Red career, including six times during the 2023-24 season, and was the conference’s Goaltender of the Month on six instances, highlighted by his five selections in 2023-24. Shane followed his Cornell career by appearing with the ECHL’s Norfolk Admirals on an amateur tryout (ATO) for the remainder of the 2024-25 season.
