Ord was a three-time All-American, earning All-America honors in the 50 freestyle at the national championships in 1954 and 1955 and as a member of the 400 free relay in 1954. As sophomore he went 4-0 in the 50 free in dual meets, 6-2 as junior and 10-l as a senior. Ord also competed in the 100 free, going 6-1 his senior year in dual meets. He placed fifth in 50 freestyle at the 1955 Easterns while his 440 relay was sixth. Ord swam the leadoff leg of the 400 freestyle relay that placed third at the Easterns in 1954. He also set the school record in the 50 freestyle.
