Marchell was named an honorable mention All-American defender as a senior captain after helping the Big Red to a 16-0 record (6-0 Ivy), an Ivy League championship, and an NCAA championship in 1976. A three-year letter winner, he was a crucial part of the defensive unit that earned a 14-0 victory over Washington and Lee in the opening round the 1976 NCAA tournament, the only shutout in NCAA Division I men’s lacrosse tournament history.
