A three-year starter on the 1981, 1982 and 1983 football teams, Scully ranked among the best three linebackers at Cornell during the last two decades, according to former Cornell linebacker coach Pete Noyes. (The other two LBers are 2001 HOF inductee Mitch Lee '90 and Chris Zingo '94.) Scully was co-captain of the 1983 team. He was named to All-Ivy first team in 1983, after receiving All-Ivy second-team honors in 1982 and honorable mention as a sophomore. He received Associated Press All-America honorable mention in 1983. The team leader in tackles from 1981-83, he set the all-time Cornell record for career tackles with 349 (193-165).
