Mooney was a three-time All-American on the basis of her performance at the NCAA track and cross country championships, placing fourth in the indoor mile in 1992, 12th in the outdoor 1500 meters in 1993 and 23rd at the cross country nationals in 1992. She earned All-Ivy first-team honors 12 times, including six as a member of the first-place 4x800-meter relay and winning the 800 meters outdoors in '91 and '93, the mile and 800 indoors in '93, the outdoor 1500 in '93 and placing second at the Heptagonal cross country championships in 1992. She was an eight-time All-East performer, including a second-place finish in the mile at the indoor ECAC championships in '91 and third in the outdoor 800 in '92. Mooney was also a six-time national qualifier. She set two individual school indoor records (the 1,000 and 3,000 meters) and as a member of four relays. She was captain of the cross country team in 1992 and was captain of the track team as a junior and senior.
