Hanson was an Associated Press second-team All-American and a first-team All-Ivy League pick as a senior in 1994. He tied a school single-season record with eight interceptions as part of a monster campaign that also saw him post 85 tackles with 14.0 for a loss, two sacks, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery. Hanson's three interceptions against Fordham also matched a school single game mark. He was a two-year letter winner who earned the team’s Jack Murphy Big Play Award in his final season. After his final season, he was chosen to represent the Ivy League as part of the Epson Ivy Bowl in Osaka, Japan. The one-time Ivy League Defensive Player of the Week also lettered for Cornell in baseball.
