Eliot was a First Team All-America, All-Ivy, All-ECAC goaltender and team MVP in1983. An All-Ivy First Team pick in 1981, he was the MVP of the ECAC championships in 1980 when Cornell won the title and participated in the NCAA tournament. Eliot finished his four-year career ranked eighth on Cornell's all-time goalie list (3.78 GAA) and second in saves (2,143). He was the goalie for the 1984 Canadian Olympic team. Eliot was drafted in 1980 by the Los Angeles Kings and played five seasons in the NHL with L.A., Detroit and Buffalo (1984-89).
