Hawk was an NCAA All-American in the 1-meter diving competition at the 1963 national championships, becoming the first Cornellian to capture national honors in diving. Hawks placed second in the 1-meter and third in the 3-meter dives at the Eastern Seaboard Swim Meet as a senior in 1965 after winning the 1-meter competition in 1964.
