Carlson was an honorable mention All-American and first-team All-Ivy midfielder in 1962, helping the Big Red to a record of 4-4 overall and 3-2 in Ivy League play, good for second in the conference standings.  He served as team captain in 1962 and finished the season with 13 goals and two assists.
